1st Day of Pre-K

How is it possible that my baby boy is already old enough for Pre-Kindergarten?  Wasn't he born just 2 minutes ago???

We love Mrs. Lesley Proctor, Leo's teacher!

Mrs. Corley already has Leo's (and our) heart!

How I Met Your Father

Okay kids, as Daddy and I approach our 5 year anniversary (10/10/14) I was inspired to write down the story of how Mommy and Daddy met.  Its a fun story and I hope you will enjoy hearing and reading it someday.  God definitely had a hand in this story and I am so glad He did!

In July 2007, Mommy moved to Austin, Texas to start working on her doctorate degree at The University of Texas.  When Mommy decided to move she was a little scared, she didn't really know anyone much, and was a little nervous about moving to such a big city.  She decided she was going to go to church to meet some other young single friends, but she was there to go to school, not to date anyone.  Mommy turned 28 years old that summer and had decided that it was time to focus on her career and not worry about dating.  The joke was on her!

So, the first thing Mommy did was go on a road trip to the Fiesta Texas theme park in San Antonio.  I road in the church van down with a bunch of other people from the Young Adults group at Westover Hills Church of Christ.  It was a lot of fun meeting everyone.  When we arrived at Fiesta everyone was waiting to buy their tickets and this nice guy, who had some free tickets,  gave one to Mommy since I was the new girl.  Immediately Mommy noticed that this guy was nice, but really reminded her of her cousin, Brett.  I think it was the blonde hair and fair skin...Annie, you're welcome!  Anyway, we went on into the park and started riding rides.  It was SO HOT!  Mommy and this nice guy, your Daddy, kept ending up sitting together on some of the rides and just really enjoyed talking to each other.  The funny part is, neither of us was thinking anything about dating the other...just being friendly, Daddy was nice like that!

One of the rides we ended up on was called the Wave Runner.  It is one of those crazy spinning rides.  Daddy was being kind and let Mommy slide onto the bench first and then he sat down.  Remember I said it was SO HOT!  Well, Mommy was wearing wind shorts that day.  Nice slippery wind shorts.  The ride started up and started spinning in all sorts of ways.  When the first big spin happened Mommy's hiney (in the slippery wind shorts) slid out from underneath me and I basically slid across the bench and landed on Daddy.  I pulled myself back across the bench just in time to slip and slide again and slam back into Daddy.  We were laughing so hard and I just kept slipping and basically ended up just sitting on him the rest of the ride.  I was kinda embarrassed, but it really was quite funny.

We took a trip back to Fiesta Texas before we got married and took this picture on the Wave Runner.

So, the rest of the trip to Fiesta Texas was fun and hot and Daddy and I kept chatting and laughing and riding rides.  After that Daddy and I were friends, but neither was still thinking about dating the other.  Whenever we saw each other at church we talked and laughed.  One day, in mid Spring 2008, Mammaw and Granny (Daddy's mom and grandmother) came to visit him.  They came to church that Sunday and Mommy went to meet them.  Apparently Mammaw told Daddy that he should ask me out on a date, which I think is the best advice she ever gave him ;o).  Daddy thought about it for a little while then decided to call Mommy to ask her to go out on a date.  According to Daddy he called Mommy over and over and over that day and was getting so nervous when I didn't answer.  Mommy was out visiting with student teachers so she was not home.  (That was back when we actually had home phones in addition to our cell phones.)  I finally got home that evening and didn't notice on caller id all the times Daddy had called...thankfully!  A little while later, Daddy tried calling again and I was home to answer.  He asked me to go to dinner with him and I said yes.  Honestly, Mommy was just thinking it was a friend calling another friend to go to dinner.  It wasn't until after she got off the phone that she realized he was asking her out on a date.  Mommy called her friend, Alicia, and told her about the conversation.  She laughed at Mommy and agreed that it was indeed a date.

On Tuesday, March 24, 2008, Daddy picked Mommy up and took her to dinner at Matt's El Rancho Mexican Restaurant.  Daddy and Mommy talked and laughed the entire time, it was so much fun getting to know about each other.  Daddy left to travel to Rome the next week, but asked Mommy out again.  After he got back Mommy and Daddy started going out on dates every week and talking on the phone a lot.  On our third date we met up with Daddy's friend, Dathan and his wife Marie.  Daddy told Mommy we were going to see a movie that was a little scary.  We got to the theater and Daddy bought the tickets to a different, totally terrifying movie.  I spent most of the movie holding on to Daddy's arm trying to hide while he yelled at the people on the screen to run!  When he took me home that night I made him come in my apartment and check all around, in the closets and showers, and cabinets, etc. for any bad guys.  I made him do this for several days whenever we would go out...I was FREAKED OUT!

So, Daddy and I kept dating and slowly fell in love with each other.  I think it was the Fourth of July in 2008 that Mommy realized that this relationship could be really going "somewhere".  Daddy said he knew a lot sooner than that, but Mommy was a chicken!  We shared some wonderful times going on dates, visiting and meeting each others families and just spending time together.  Daddy asked me to marry him on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at a lovely restaurant, The Oasis, overlooking Lake Travis as the sun set.

We were married on Saturday, October 10, 2009.  The day was amazing.  I am sure we will have a lot more stories to share as you get older, before we forget them, but Mommy wanted to get this one written for you!

To Scott - thank you for an amazing, crazy, exhausting, adventurous, and lovely 5 years of marriage.  Thank you for being my partner, my friend, my support, and my husband.  Yours, Alli

To Annie on your 1st birthday!

My Darling Girl,
How is it possible that you are already a year old?  You will learn someday, when you have precious babies of your own, that time really does "fly".  One year ago I was feeling a bit like I was about to pop.  I absolutely couldn't wait to meet you.  Your room was ready, our hospital bag was packed, the house was clean, and I had been having contractions on and off for almost 2 months.  I knew what it was like to have a baby.  I knew the level of joy and fear I would feel.  I was so very happy to have you in my arms and to look at that sweet pink face, but I was so scared.  Scared for you, scared for me, scared that I would no longer be able to protect you from this world, from my own klutziness, from your crazy big brother.  For as much as I wanted to meet you I longed to protect you.  Thankfully, though, their is one who loves you more than Daddy and I, and He can protect you.  My darling girl, God is good, trust him, rely on him, he will never hurt you.
Annie Kate, when we found out that you were a girl I was beyond excited.  I have been lucky to be blessed by having a mother who is also my best friend.  I pray every night that not only will I be the best mother for you, but that we may also genuinely be friends.  I feel, that even though we've only been together a year, we are well on the road to a lifetime of girl talk, shopping, giggling, crying, cuddling, and being friends.  Remember my darling girl, I will always be your mother first and your first best friend.
Sweet girl, your blonde wispy hair, with just a teeny hint of curl, makes me so happy.  I can't wait for it to be long enough to fix!  Everybody loves your hair and comments on how very blonde it is.  Don't buy into the blonde jokes, kiddo, you are wise beyond your year!  With your porcelain, fair skin, lovely blue eyes, long eye lashes, and perfect rosebud lips you are simply beautiful.  However, my darling girl, beauty, true beauty comes from the heart.  I pray that you always keep your beautiful heart.  You love your daddy, brother, Lucy, and me.  While you cannot tell us with your words, your eyes, your smiles, your super-slobbery kisses, cheers, and hugs tell us without question.  Keep that beautiful heart and I know you will have a happy life.
Finally, Annie, my darling girl, know that you are loved.  Sometimes in the middle of the night I will sneak into your room just to watch you sleep.  (I do this to your brother, too, but lets keep that a secret!)  I find that when I am away from you, my arms ache to hold you.  Your cry breaks my heart (and makes me giggle a little - you make a great pitiful face!)  You bring joy to our lives and we praise God for entrusting you to us.  You are a blessing, a gift, and we love you so much.  Happy 1st birthday, my darling girl!
Love,
Momma
