Genius Is As Genius Does

Genius? Sometimes. There are times I look at the playlists created using the Genius function on Cherry Darling and wonder what the help they are thinking in iPod land. And then there are lists like this one that totally capture my mood based on the original song I use to build it. Cherry queued up The Pogues Love You Till Then End, a song I adore even if it ain't Shane singing. So on a whim I hit Genius to see what list it would make me. Color me impressed. Two thumbs up!

Love You Till The End - The Pogues
The Time Of Times - Badly Drawn Boy
Camera One - Josh Joplin Group
After Hours - We Are Scientists
Leaving Town - Dexter Freebish
Strange & Beautiful (I'll Put A Spell On You) - Aqualung
We Used To Be Friends - The Dandy Warhols
Naked As We Came - Iron & Wine
Nth Degree - Morningwood
Easy Tonight - Five For Fighting
Tremble For My Beloved - Collective Soul

Give Me One More Chance And You'll Be Satisfied

Ummmm.............I got nothing folks. Seriously. Empty tank. My inbox was scary at the office. I missed both a Safety meeting and the first Charity Auction meeting. Bleh. I do, however, totally approve of the theme for the 2010 auction =)

I do have a rather interesting Thursday Thirteen coming up next week. No clue what useless crap I will exploit for Wordless. And of course we have Peace Globes this week.

Watching Basketball. I love this movie. The Matt and Trey man-kiss at the end is hysterical.

I am hating Daylight Savings time. It's dark when I get to work and it is dark when I leave the office. Yay. I have to say this winter is looking to kick my ass particularly badly this year.

Oh I DO have a spot on the charity selection committee. I, of course, will be pushing for CAP =)

OH! And guess who is coming to Seattle June 20th? That would be U2. Guess who will taking Amtrak to Seattle on June 20th? That would be me and my shadow =)

Dancing In The Deepest Ocean

Yawn. Seriously, early sucks.

Long day today. We have the whole community celebration thing at her school, followed by the first home Football game followed by the Dance I get to Chaperon. I am still snickering about that. Get this..they are cramming them in the school Rotunda for some reason rather than the cafeteria. Because teens like to be "squashed" together. Not my words. Frankly if we are packing them in like sardines, chaperoning them seems somewhat pointless to me.

Also, what do y'all think about the term "Get a room" as a choice of words? I am guessing it is not tsk tsk-y enough to work as a chaperon. I suppose they would prefer I talk about the sanctity of marriage and all that crap. Like teenagers don't have sex.

/eye roll

Anyhow I will be out and about from 5:30 to at least 11:30 tonight and then I get to be up at 7 tomorrow and to work all day. Yippy!

Kidlet and I are going to see the sneak preview of Whip It tomorrow and I am pretty jazzed about that. We get a free t-shirt with the sneak promotion. Always a good thing with my jeans and t shirt wearing daughter around.

Sunday I think we are going to my parents house. I have been reading a really great book called Bones of the Master and my dad has the sequel to it. Really interesting read, "Though not as widely discussed as the Cultural Revolution, China's Great Leap Forward (1957-1963) also inspired an internal struggle among Chinese Communist Party leaders. As they argued about the pace and type of development best suited for China, famine settled upon the land, killing tens of thousands and affecting millions. In 1959, the monks of Puu Jih Monastery knew they had to leave in order "to keep Buddha's true mind alive." Tsung Tsai, the youngest, journeyed alone through the heart of China to Hong Kong, eventually settling in Woodstock, N.Y. The story unfolds in an engaging way as author Crane befriends his quirky new neighbor, Tsung Tsai. When Tsung Tsai proposes to return to China to find the bones of his master and build a shrine, Crane follows to record the event. Despite their abbreviated poetic nature, Crane's impressions of Chinese life are some of the richest and most vivid readers will encounter. His words float like silk prayer flags at a Buddhist temple, enticing readers to explore their own spirituality. This book is the best reflection on Ch'an Buddhism to appear in quite some time. Written on multiple levels, it will appeal to readers looking for a good story, armchair travelers who want to understand more about China and spiritual seekers with an interest in Buddhism."

Yes, Starr is all deep and shit and reads non-fiction :P

I am feeling the need for music today. Hopefully my bitch of an iPod has gotten over her sarcastic mode in time to leave me with a semi decent short shuffle for your listening pleasure. We'll call it Starrs Freak Friday Fifteen.

Somebody Check My Brain

It's Wednesday night, which means So You Think You Can Dance and Glee. It also feels like it should be Friday night. Or Thursday. And I am actually working Overtime this weekend for the first time in ages.

Back to School night was actually not bad. As I expected Kidlet and her friend were semi-there. They showed up during her Leadership class and kind of tailed her dad and I for the remainder of the trip. In between helping lost parents. Including her own :P

You know what sounds really really good? Molten Chocolate Cake. Know what I have to eat for dessert? Sugar free Popsicles. I feel cheated.

Oh guess what?! There is a sneak preview of Whip It this Saturday and Kidlet and I are gonna go. Yay! After I work for 8 hours of course.

OMG. Just figured out I will be out until nearly midnight Friday due to the whole Chaperon thing.

What does one wear to chaperon? Pearls, an A Line and an apron?

Added Kings of Leon - Notion and Alice In Chains - Check My Brain to the New Music list. I wanted to hate AIC. Cause Layne was, well, fucking amazing. This song? Fucking rocks. I suppose after naming my blog for lyrics from The Widow Cobain it was all over for me anyhow :P

Last Night There Were Skinheads On My Lawn - TT #37

13 Random things about me.

1. I can do the Hustle. Yes, Bond, that Hustle. Someone alert Travolta I am coming for him!

2. My first ex husband (I liked ex's so much I got 2!) used to refer to my eye color as pond scum green. It is oddly accurate and I find it highly amusing.

3. I am incapable of cooking small portions. I am Greek, I cook for an army.

4. I am currently addicted to Subway's Italian BMT. It's all in the pepporcinis.

5. I am getting excited for our upcoming Charity Auction at work. This weekend we will be having a fund raiser with Baja Fresh. We get 15% of all proceeds for Friday Sat and Sun from all stores in Portland, Beaverton, Vancouver...basically the entire I-5 cooridor in Oregon. We are doing a department lunch Friday and I am buying food Sunday for the Super Bowl.

6. I think Hershey's Kisses are just about the most perfect chocolate.

7. I had a major craving for a Hot Brown sandwich last week when Kidlet was home sick so I made a huge platter. It was super yum.

8. I don't think Jessica Alba could act her way out of a paper bag. And yeah guys, I know, "who cares?" indeed. Color me smug cause Johnny Depp can act :P

9. Fred Meyer shoppers hate me. They are out to get me. I am not paranoid! Kidlet agrees.

10. Bond is in Hotlanta and I am jealous. And Bitter. I want to eat dinner here:

11. Evan Rachel Wood should not screw up Blackbird. She should also stop trying to be Dita Von Teese.

12. Speaking of Dita, she reminds me of Vivien Leigh. Thinking that makes me want watch Gone With The Wind.

13. Singing along to this song at the office will get you stared at.

Thursday Thirteen #11

I am spacing out people. Seriously seem to have lost that crispness of mind. So today's 13 is off the wall and random. These are just a few thoughts from the oddness that is Starr's brain.

1. If I never have to hear The Shin's New Slang ever again in my life I will be most greatful.

2. Chili Colorado with pork loin is yummy. Especially when I make it.

3. Flavored creamers for coffee make me gag. Especially hazelnut. /shudder

4. The General Lee is up for auction on Ebay. Current price? 2.7Million. Belle and I would have to dual for the Lee!

5. Van Halen rocks. Van Hagar...not so much.

6. I had a seriously screwed up dream not long ago in which Dennis Weaver (the actor) chased George Clooney and myself through the Milagro Beanfields. In late 70's model Caddys. He ended up catching us AND killing us both with the claw end of a hammer. George tried to save me. He was very brave. Dennis was a peg.

7. The same night I had the above dream, Kidlet dreamed that her class had a heads down hands up vote and had her committed to a mental asylum. While in the asylum, Linda Blair suffocated her with a tuna sandwich. That had too much dill. We are still trying to figure out what we ate or drank that caused such bizarre dreams.

8. This is NOT a flattering picture of Ickney Spears. I think it is safe to say she didn't have that tummy tuck.

9. I could listen to The Verve's Bittersweet Symphony on Urban Hymns on repeat over and over. That and Porcelain on Moby's Play are the two songs I go to when I need to chill the world and or my brain out.

10. My daughter HATES Michael Buble. She calls him "The Booble" in this snarky mocking voice.

11. We had dinner at a fabulous restaurant called Eleni's Philoxenia & Estiatorio with a cousin I actually had FUN talking too. Back story here, I come from a HUGE Greek family. My Big Fat Greek Wedding was not as amusing to me as it was to others. I watched it with my ex boyfriend and his mom and they thought it was hysterical. I cringed. A lot. Tidbit I just learned, the owner of Eleni's - Eleni herself - is married to the former owner of the Satyricon!

12. I registered with Habitat for Humanity today to be a volunteer. And you should too!

13. If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons?
