Ramification Point

A ramification point of a nonconstant holomorphic map f:X->Y between Riemann surfaces is a point p at which, in suitable coordinate charts centered at p and f(p), the map has the form z|->z^e with e>1. The integer e is the ramification index at p, and f(p) is a branch point.
